We are told by one of the biblical writers that perfect love casts out all fear.
That perfect love is the greater force mentioned here, alluding to God whose
indwelling presence it is that pushes out and liberates us from all fear. What
is there to fear when one knows that one is a beloved son or daughter of
such a loving God? Thus, one is lifted out of fearful darkness into an
intimate relationship with God that far transcends any need to rely on
human rules or regulations. In a very healthy sense, one is truly above the
law, as it is now written in one’s heart.
Those who believe in this loving God will follow the universal Golden Rule of
acting towards others as we would have them act towards us. This sense of
being fully loved expresses itself in self-knowledge, self-worth, and above
all, an acceptance of one’s self that is both humble and an experience of
genuine human freedom.
