This intriguing title and chapter lead us on a profound inner journey to
wholeness, based on the humble awareness that avoids false pride and
boasting. We are invited into a more contemplative stance of stillness and
solitude, soaking up God’s love, rather than selfish, self-serving activity. Our
goal becomes doing God’s will rather than our own agenda.
Those who are insecure and not grounded in God’s love for them tend
towards trying to earn that love through their own efforts. They basically
operate out of a meritocracy that seeks to attract attention to themselves,
leading to a life full of pretense and hypocrisy, insincere actions and even
prayers performed more to impress than petition.
Those who would aspire to greatness will humbly bow to God’s will for them,
seek to discern that will in solitude and the silence of their hearts, ground
themselves in an intimate relationship with God, and discover that the seed
of God is indeed found in unconditional love, as well as hidden in their true
selves.
