There is an age-old tension and dilemma within our world – that of faith in
God on the one hand, and reliance on human effort on the other. History
has proven the latter leads to violence, suffering, the tendency to dominate,
and human misery.
God is, above all, patient, gentle, selfless, always preferring to use the
power of powerlessness to accomplish God’s plan for humanity and the
universe, the power of exousia, the power of a little child to melt the most
hardened hearts. Every other power is temporary and will not last. It is only
God and the power of love that is truly eternal. When we finally learn to
make love our ultimate end and goal, we tap into that eternal life of God.
