While the reality of God is beyond our comprehension and far exceeds the
limitations of our human intelligence, we can know much of God through
human reason, the incredible beauty of creation as the first revelation of
God, and the scriptures which we call the Word of God.

This text offers us an excellent description of God as simple and subtle, to
which the scriptures add one keyword – God is love. Suppose the world’s
leaders could genuinely grasp even just that one simple yet subtle mystery
and dedicate themselves to doing the will of God, which is to love one
another. In that case, peace and harmony could become a much more
significant part of our human experience.

While we know that we cannot truly name God, it is important to name
things properly. Because even if we can’t fix or resolve a problem, at least
we can begin to relate to it in a more meaningful way. It is also important not
to hide behind titles, which can easily lead to grandiosity.

The last stanza puts everything into perspective, as do the scriptures, which
remind us that we come from dust and unto dust we will return. This is a
humbling realization inviting us to trust in a loving God who will never fail us.
