a Matthew 13:10-17 (Then the disciples came and asked him, “Why do you
speak to them in parables?” He answered, “To you it has been given to
know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been
given. For to those who have, more will be given, and they will have an
abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be
taken away. The reason I speak to them in parables is that ‘seeing they do
not perceive, and hearing they do not listen, nor do they understand. With
them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah that says: ‘You will indeed
listen, but never understand, and you will indeed look, but never perceive.
For this people’s heart has grown dull, and their ears are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes; so that they might not look with their eyes,
and listen with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn - and I
would heal them.’…)
b John 1:1-2 (In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.)
c John 14:10 (Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in
me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father
who dwells in me does his works.)
John 5:30
d John 5:45-47 (Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; your
accuser is Moses, on whom you have set your hope. If you believed Moses,
you would believe me, for he wrote about me. But if you do not believe what
he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”)
John 8:39-40
e Matthew 6:19-21 (“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but
store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust
consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.)
