There is a saying, “Still waters run deep.” That saying, and this chapter,
invite us to live our lives at a more profound level than what at first appears
to be a reality to our senses. The Spirit of the living God, who created and
knows all things, can help us see more clearly and beyond appearances,
listen to what is really being said, discern what is the best for us, and know
what is truly important in our hearts.
The gifts of the Spirit are knowledge, wisdom, understanding, counsel,
fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord, or a sense of awe before God. Some of
the fruits of the Spirit are peace, love, faith, joy, and humility. To live a
healthy, balanced life, we must face reality, accept reality, and deal with
reality. That is what wisely living in the Spirit of God will help us do, which
will make all the difference in our lives.
