One definition of spirituality is that it is all about letting go. Many, if not most,
people want more of everything in their search for happiness, especially
possessions, prestige, power, and pleasure. The danger here is that these
created goods become ends in themselves. People then over-attach to
them and become slaves to them.
This chapter offers a solution – to let go of showing off, pretense, and
phoniness so often involved in the pursuit of these false gods. We are
encouraged to strive for the higher principles of simplicity, humility, and
selflessness instead. In the process, we become more genuine, achieve our
true nature and experience contentment.
